Pool Deck and Lanai Paver Sealing in Cape Coral

A pool deck is not a driveway with a pool next to it. Different chemistry, different traffic, and a real slip consideration.

Slip resistance comes first

Wet feet on a sealed pool deck is exactly the situation where a glossy sealer becomes a hazard. Pool decks should be sealed with a product that either carries a slip-resistant additive or is matte and penetrating rather than film-forming. If a quote for a pool deck does not mention this at all, it is worth asking why.

Salt and chlorine

Salt systems are common on Cape Coral pools and salt is hard on paver joints and on the paver face at the waterline. The splash zone around the coping degrades faster than the rest of the deck, and that is the area worth inspecting when deciding whether the deck needs doing.

Screen cages complicate the work

Most Cape Coral pool decks sit inside a screen enclosure. That limits how cleaning equipment can be used, means overspray lands on screen and frame, and means the deck dries more slowly because there is less air movement. All of that is manageable, but it makes a cage deck a slower job than an open driveway of the same size — and a quote that treats them as equivalent has probably not accounted for it.

Efflorescence

The white bloom that shows up on pool decks is usually efflorescence — mineral salts migrating out of the paver, common in the first year or two after installation and around pools generally. It needs a proper cleaner rather than pressure alone, and sealing over it traps it under the surface.

Common questions

Can you seal a deck with the cage in place?

Yes. It is normal here — the cage stays and the crew works around it.

Will sealing make the deck hotter underfoot?

Colour does more to deck temperature than sealer does. A wet-look product darkens the paver, which does not help on a west-facing deck in July.
