Paver Cleaning and Re-Sanding in Cape Coral
Most Cape Coral pavers do not need replacing. They need the black off the surface and sand back in the joints.

The black is usually not dirt
On shaded and north-facing Cape Coral driveways, what looks like dirt is normally organic growth — algae and mildew that thrive in the humidity. It comes back quickly if it is only blasted off, because the spores stay in the pores of the paver. A cleaning that includes a treatment step, not just pressure, is what buys you time before it returns.
Surface cleaning versus a pressure wand
A flat surface cleaner spreads the pressure evenly and lifts the growth without carving the paver. A narrow wand at high pressure held close does cosmetic damage that shows up later as a striped, pitted face, and it drives joint sand out far faster than it needs to come out. If you have seen a driveway with visible wand arcs across it, that is what happened.
Re-sanding is the point
Joint sand does structural work: it locks the pavers against each other so the field behaves as one surface. Polymeric sand hardens after wetting and resists washout better than plain silica, which matters on Cape Coral's sloped driveways and during the summer downpours. Sand has to go in dry, be swept fully into the joints, and be watered in properly — done in a hurry it leaves a haze on the paver face that is tedious to remove.
Cleaning without sealing
Perfectly reasonable. Cleaning and re-sanding on their own restore most of the appearance and all of the joint stability. Sealing then adds stain resistance and slows the regrowth. If the budget only stretches to one of the two, do the cleaning and re-sanding — it is the part that protects the driveway rather than the part that makes it shine.
Common questions
Will the weeds come back?
Some will. Polymeric sand suppresses most of it, but seeds land on top and root in surface debris regardless of what is in the joint.
Can you clean around a screened pool cage?
Yes, and it needs care — overspray on the screen and the cage frame is the usual complaint after a rushed job.
